HATHI INDIAN RESTAURANT – TEMPORARY CLOSURE
For those who haven’t been following our story, or aren’t familiar with it, Hathi (Alexandra Headland), Rangoli (Buderim) & The Curry Bowl (Buddina) are family owned and operated by the de Silva brothers since 1992, when Hathi was established.
The retirement of its founding brother in late 2023 necessitated some changes to ensure the remaining brothers could continue to operate the businesses, whilst also maintaining a healthy work life balance.
The decision was therefore made to downsize Hathi to a smaller operation, with a greater focus on take-away, rather than its 150-seater restaurant at the present location.
Whilst a tenant has been secured for our premises at Alexandra Headland, we are yet to find the right fit for new premises to downsize and relocate Hathi to. This has led to our decision to cease trading temporarily until a suitable location has been secured. Our last trading day at the present location will be Saturday the 8th of March 2025 and we have done our best to absorb current staff members into our other restaurants.
In the interim, we would love to serve you at Rangoli in Buderim (rangoli.net.au) & the Curry Bowl in Buddina (currybowl.com.au), where you can order online or phone the store direct. We also partner with UberEATS for your convenience.
We regret any inconvenience caused and thank you for your support and look forward to serving you at our other restaurants until we are back up and running at a new location.

Hathi is both the most iconic and the longest running Indian Restaurant on the Sunshine Coast. Established in 1992 by the de Silva brothers – Chris, Peter and Aldrin – Hathi soon became well known to locals across the Coast, as well as regular visitors to the area
After trading at its original site at Aerodrome Road for more than 17 years, Hathi moved to larger premises in February 2010. Diners now enjoy a view of the beautiful Alexandra Headland ocean and beach.
The use of the freshest spices, produce, meat and poultry available, preferably from local suppliers, ensures that the standard of food is of the highest level possible.
We have a large range of dishes available on our menu, from both North & South India. We also have an extensive vegetarian menu. The tantalising and delicious dishes prepared by our fantastic and dedicated Chefs allow you to enjoy an authentic Indian experience right here on the Sunshine Coast.
